Yamaha YZF R9 2025

The 2025 Yamaha YZF R9 redefines Supersport, providing track-capable performance in an accessible street bike package that’s suitable for riders of all skill levels. Equipped with Yamaha’s iconic 890cc CP3 inline triple engine from their MT-09 and SP models as well as proprietary ECU settings and taller final drive gearing to achieve 117 horsepower, the R9 offers unparalleled track performance while remaining approachable by all riders.

Power

Yamaha’s R9 takes another leap forward in their sportbike lineup with its striking appearance that recalls both the R1 and R6 models. An M-shaped front duct and MotoGP-inspired winglets should produce significant downforce at track speeds.

The R9 features the highly-praised 890cc CP3 engine found on the MT-09, providing it with 117 horsepower to provide both aggressive sport riding and street accessability.

The Yamaha YZF-R9’s gravity-cast Deltabox aluminum frame is the lightest ever available on a supersport model, featuring an innovative balance of flexibility and rigidity for agile handling at all speeds. A fully-adjustable KYB suspension features a 43mm inverted front fork with compression/rebound adjustable capabilities as well as a rear monoshock featuring remote spring preload adjustability for convenient rider adjustment.

Performance

With its dedicated Supersport chassis and advanced electronics, the 2025 Yamaha YZF-R9 reinvents the class with track-capable performance for riders of all skill levels. Utilizing its 890cc CP3 powerplant, its ECU settings and taller gearing combine to produce 117hp of broad torquey power.

This model also boasts the same feature-packed electronics suite found on its flagship counterpart, powered by a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). Furthermore, Lean Angle Sensitive Traction Control offers nine selectable intervention levels tailored to individual rider preferences.

Deltabox gravity-cast frames are lighter and more compact than their MT-09 counterparts, featuring a 4.7-inch trail and near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. An excellent fully adjustable KYB suspension comes equipped with 43mm inverted fork and remote spring-preload adjustability – further improving ride quality on this new R9! Additionally, Brembo Stylema monoblock brake calipers with 320mm dual discs help make up this new ride.

Design

Yamaha engineers set out to achieve a balance between thrilling Supersport performance and everyday practicality when creating the 2025 YZF-R9. The gravity cast Deltabox frame of this bike is among the lightest ever offered by any Yamaha Supersport, yet has been extensively tuned both for street riding suppleness and rigidity that allows razor-sharp handling at track speeds.

The R9 has a more street-oriented rider triangle than its flagship R1, featuring lower and further forward seat and peg positions to enhance long distance comfort. Yet despite these more accessible dimensions, the R9 still provides advanced Supersport rider aids informed by a six-axis IMU; including four power modes; nine level traction control; three mode slide control; wheelie control system as well as wheelie control settings customizable on its 5-inch TFT display display for your riding preferences.

Technology

Yamaha’s up-and-down quickshifter is just one of many rider aids included on the R9, along with a new high-spec KYB suspension system and Deltabox gravity cast frame that are both familiar to riders from its other motorcycles, yet uniquely lightweight for Supersport use. Engineers at R9 tailored their frame specifically to accommodate sports riding at both low loads and heavy loads for optimal sports riding experience.

The Yamaha YZF-R9 boasts an advanced electronics package featuring lean angle-sensitive Traction Control System, four selectable power delivery modes and an advanced six-axis IMU. Additionally, its five-inch TFT display offers selectable street and track themes along with smartphone connectivity through Y-Connect as well as easy navigation via Yamaha’s innovative handlebar switchgear; their shapes and feel have been refined for easier operation and intuitive functionality – making the bike accessible performance street bike suitable for riders of various skill levels.
